As President of Christian College of Georgia, it gives me great joy to announce that Christian College has extended a call to the Reverend Lainie Jenkins as our new Minister of Congregational Vitality. Christian College has a strategic plan in place which positions everything we do in ministry to result in greater vitality in the congregations in Georgia. Lainie’s competencies and interests are clearly aligned with what we hope to do in our educational programs.
College student ministries, designed to keep young adults connected to the Church, are pointed toward congregational vitality. Education for Ministry, which targets those ministers who will likely not attend seminary but still need to develop the best practices and skills for ministry are directed, ultimately, toward congregational vitality. Likewise is our clergy and seminarian nurture program, including our annual “VOICES” Retreat and our Atlanta Disciples Divinity Center, are clearly part of this Vision. With this as her context, Lainie will be entering a ministry which has a solid foundation to create new initiatives to help Christian College be more faithful and effective.
Initially, Lainie will have two areas of particular focus for her ministry: Intentional Interim Ministry (from both the minister’s and the congregation’s perspective) and Biblical Literacy. There may be other arenas in which she will serve in the future. Both of these, however, are avenues for increased congregational health and vitality.
