Welcome
to the Christian College of Georgia!! We
are glad that you are visiting our website! Institute
for Christian Ministry Courses, 2012 Christian College is committed to offering the courses of instruction, portfolio consultation, and referral to additional educational opportunities for all persons seeking Standing in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as Commissioned Ministers. We will be offering courses in 2012 based on the needs of the students who are already in the process of completing the curriculum which has been in place since 2005. Furthermore, as readers can see in the article on “distance education” above, we are working diligently on the new curriculum for Commissioned Ministers and for those who are seeking Ordination via alternative tracks (non-seminary students). Anyone who is interested in taking courses, however, is eligible to enroll; you may take any or all of the courses we offer, even if you are NOT in a track for Ministerial Standing. Continuing and Prospective Students – Please mark your calendars now for the Institute for Christian Ministry Course in “Pastoral Care.” Sept 8, Oct 6, Nov 3 and Dec 1. Each Saturday will be a full day of instruction. The course will be offered in the Greater Atlanta Area (specific location TBA). We are most fortunate to have The Reverend Linda Whitmire as the Instructor for this important course. All persons serving in ministry, those who are in preparation, as well as other LEADERS in the church will find great benefit in this course. If you are seeking standing as a minister or if you simply want to enhance your abilities to be of help to others in need (illness, crisis, distress, grief, etc.) then this course is for you. Here is a brief description of the course along with the objectives: This course will introduce students to the practical skills of caring for members of a parish. Students will learn how to make effective visits in |

various care settings and situations as well as home visits and appropriate crisis responses. Special attention will be given to ministry with those in grief, including the preparation and conduct of a funeral. Differences in situations involving children vs. old age, and differences in ministry when violence vs. normal illness and decline occurs will be surfaced with guest speakers. Emphasis will be on understanding the student’s competency as well as helping the student understand his or her limits for providing care based on levels of education, training, experience and available referral resources. (Two units)
Course Objectives:
1.
To enable participants to gain knowledge and skills in
offering pastoral care. 2.
To provide participants with experience in preparation of
a funeral. 3.
To introduce students to differences in response to
differing situations. 4. To acquaint students with referral and support and care services in their locale.
